Swine Flu Spreading - But Don't Panic

With the swine flu school closings occurring today, you might think that some might be jumping the gun and being just a bit too quick to slide right into panic mode, but it's always better to err on the side of caution in this case.
Now that the number of countries reporting infected persons has increased, and also, the number of states in the US with confirmed cases has risen from 5 to 10, everyone needs to really start taking it a bit more seriously.

Here are some basic preventative measures and all around good habits you can follow to cut down on the risk of contracting this bug, as listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website:

1 - Avoid close contact.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

2 - Stay home when you are sick.

If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.

3 - Cover your mouth and nose.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

4 - Clean your hands.

Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.

5 - Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.

6 - Practice other good health habits.

Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

*************************************************************

These sound like great habits to have even when there isn't any threat of contracting a humanly transmitted illness.

Hopefully this thing will soon pass, and there won't end up being many more deaths from it. Do your best to stay safe, and also to help cut down the risk of catching this flu.

Skinny Girl Margarita, Anyone?

Bethenney Frankel
Bethenney Frankel of The Real Housewives of New York and inventor of the "Skinny Girl Margarita", is working on an entire line of low calorie cocktails, soon to be available at an upscale bar/lounge near you. I think it's a good thing, being a part time party girl, myself. Who couldn't use a little help shaving off those unnecessary calories while having a good time? She's also invented a low calorie Mojito. Sounds interesting!

Here is the recipe for her Skinnygirl Margarita:

2 oz Clear Premium Tequila

Tiny splash of Orange Liquer

Juice of four Fresh Lime Wedges

Combine all ingredients over a glass of ice and garnish with a lime wedge

Makes one serving

I'm thinking that the lesser calorie count is due to a scanter dose of the triple sec (orange liquer) and using fresh lime juice instead of margarita mix.

Next time I'm out, I'll definitely try one of these!

Australia's Miss Universe Contestant Anorexic or Just Skinny?

With supporters claiming it to be her "Macedonian body type", Australia's Miss Universe contestant Stephanie Naumoska threw contest officials and the entire pageant into an uproar when she hit the stage on Thursday. Doctors and dieticians declared her malnourished and suspect of having an eating disorder.

ReutersReuters

Standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 108 pounds, it would be hard not to agree. Doctors also found that Naumoska's body mass index is just 15.1. That is just under the malnutrition level, which is 18.

I don't know what the Macedonian body type is, but it certainly can't be that gaunt! The thing is, she's a pretty girl, but with the obvious weight deficiency, I'm surprised she made it that far. The contest is also about promoting a normal, healthy body type, and that sure ain't it!
Stephanie ended up being edged out for the win by Rachael Finch of Townsville. Even so, she will not soon be forgotten like most contestants!

Tina Turner, Still The Best! :)

April 19, 2009

Tina Turner, one of my FAVORITE divas, is out here on tour again, for her last tour. She's still out here Rollin' on the River, y'all, and I've got to say, she's still got it! I'm awestruck and amazed by this woman, and hope to be half as fabulous as she is when I'm her age! :)

Tina Turner in Concert at the Globen in Stockholm - April 19, 2009

When asked what she does to maintain those awesome legs, youthful figure and off the charts energy, she says that she watches what she eats, and lives a healthy lifestyle. Her rehearsals and being on tour takes care of the exercise part. Girl is not into the treadmill, but with her regimen, she really doesn't need it!

When chided about wearing short skirts and mini dresses "at her age", she replied to the person, "maybe your mother can't wear miniskirts because she's not me". You tell 'em, Tina! And nobody out there rocks the mini the way Tina still can!

This is a 70 year old woman, people. How are YOU going to be looking, feeling and acting at that age? I don't know about you, but I'm taking some notes from THIS Diva. After all these years, she's still doin' it, and fabulously! Rock on, Tina!

Breaking My Addiction to Salt

Being the educated fitness professional that I am, I know full well what is both good and bad for the body. I'm well aware of all the things you need to do to maintain a fit and healthy body and life, and for the most part, I practice all of those things. I exercise, I eat smart and well (on MOST days -lol), and I exercise my brain constantly by learning and trying new things.
However, in all my healthiness, I do have one nasty little secret.
I'm addicted to salt.

If you saw how much salt I put on my food, you would be shocked. I can make even the heartiest salt lovers gasp when I wield a salt shaker. And it's something I've done for most of my life - overuse salt. I salt my foods to death. In truth, I can't taste food unless I put a ton of salt on it. My fault for overusing it in the first place. Well, that all is coming to an end RIGHT NOW as we speak. Last week saw me successfully get through my first salt free week EVER, and now I'm on the road
to completely licking my salt addiction.

Just F.Y.I.
High blood pressure is but one of the harmful effects one can experience from consuming too much salt.
Excessive salt intake also has a negative impact on your arteries, thickening and narrowing them thus impeding normal, healthy blood flow. It can also increase the likelihood of you having a stroke, and also can lead to kidney diseases.
According to some studies, it can also interfere with the normal digestion of protein by decreasing the amount of Pepsin released into the stomach as meats and proteins are being digested.

The reason that salt makes your body retain water is because it's your body's way of trying to protect your organs from salt's harmful effects. Thus, edema (an abnormal accumulation of fluid beneath the skin, or in one or more cavities of the body) is sure to occur frequently in those who consume it.

Okay, so there ya go. I always knew that salt was bad for me, but didn't care. I just loved it so much! I keep it and hoard it like gold in my house. Those little packets you get from take out places? I bring them home and save them so that I never run out. To me, throwing away those packets of salt would be like throwing away nickels. If there is no salt in the house, I can't enjoy my food. At all. And I tend to eat things that require some salt on them. Hell, I even put salt on my salads! This has GOT to STOP!

So...last week, as I began my quest to rid myself of this nasty salt habit, I purposely choose things to eat that weren't "salt dependent" in my mind. I also forced myself to eat everything I prepared without adding salt afterwards. I still cooked with a little, but boy, did I cut back! I made myself very aware of how much I put in while pre seasoning my foods...something I have never done. Usually, I am heavy handed with the salt, both before and after the meal is prepared. Cutting back during food preparation itself was a big step for me. By the way, I cut my salt consumption back to almost zero. Last week, the ENTIRE week, I consumed barely a teaspoon of salt. That is HUGE compared to the cup and a half I'm sure I did before.

At first, yes, things did taste a little bland. I think that I've eaten so much salt over the years that I burned my taste buds out, because unless I put a ton of it on things, I can't taste it at all. But, with my new mindset, I am determined to change, so, I dealt with it. And you know what? After about 4 days, I was cool with it. After 6 days, I allowed myself to have a little sprinkle of salt on my eggs,
and immediately saw the difference! I could have eaten the eggs with NO salt, because it's like my taste buds have come back alive, and now the least bit of salt that is already in food, I can now taste.(simply because my tongue is now desperately searching for it!)

This is MAJOR for me! I have been over consuming salt since I was about 10 years old! My Aunt Sharon used to call me "Salt", as a joke. That's how well known my love of salt was. Well, NO more! I'm smarter than this, and dammit, I'm gonna act like it!

My goal is to ultimately use almost no salt, to begin using more herbs and healthier spices in my foods, and to find craftier ways to add flavor to my meals. Salt is on its way out the door!

My addiction to salt will soon be a distant memory, and I will be even healthier than I am now. I'm very happy and thrilled to be making this really important change in my life and eating habits! ;)

My Favorite Spammer

Don't ya just LOVE comment spam? I know I do. I live for it! Nothing pleases me more than to see someone with a genuine interest in a topic I've written about leaving me a heartfelt spam comment either listing all their website links, or my favorite, the repeater. I have a favorite repeater, and her name is Sarah, (on most days...when she's not Mary or somebody else). Here is a gift I get from her regularly:

Sarah is quite a card. Forgetful, for one thing! She keeps thinking it's the first time she's commented on my blog! Even after 10 + times! Also, I think she confuses other blogs with mine, because I've seen her leave the exact same comment on at least 100 other blogs in the past few months or so. That silly girl! LOL!
Anyway, as much as I like her, I delete her ass every time she shows up on my blog. I at least demand some loyalty from my spammers! Cheating is a big NO! ;)

Now, while not my favorite, this one gets big points for consistency. Sagar has been out here spamming for months! I just saw him on someone else's blog today, and yep, I'm jealous! I thought these pithy words were only meant for me! :O

Oh, how you lie! Show me the bookmark, Sagar! I dare ya! ;)

There's been a few of these comment spammers, each with their own MO, and it tickles me to death. Hey, I know we all have to hustle a little out here, but, damn...at least make it original on occasion! ;)

Who's your favorite spammer? And don't tell me it's Sarah or Sagar. There is a special place in my heart for those two! :)

Another Cool Freebie! This One's a Biggie! Free Healthcare at Walgreen's

Jennifer from Money Saver has a great post up on her blog providing info on Walgreen's free healthcare program for people that lost their jobs after March 31st. I think this is awesome, and as many people as possible should know about this!

From the Money Saver blog:
Freebie Fridays: Free Healthcare from Walgreens
Healthcare has been a hot topic in this country for as long as I can remember. Some say that we need to reform our laws to regulate insurance companies more, while others insist that socialized, or universal, healthcare is the answer.

Unfortunately, we all know that our government isn't exactly helpful in this department, just like they aren't helpful in most things they try to "fix". Everything they touch just gets worse and worse...

I'm a huge advocate of private organizations handling social issues and helping people in need, keeping the government out of it.

That's why when I learned that Walgreens has a free healthcare program for individuals who lost their jobs after March 31st, 2009, I knew I had to share this information with everyone.

HERE......

Thanks for the great and helpful info, Jennifer!

The Sponge Bob Square Butts Burger King Ad Controversy

If you haven't seen the ad by now, please watch the video.

I have to admit, when I first saw it, I laughed! It IS funny! But this little commercial here has parents and some women's groups up in arms about the objectification of the female form, and also the fact that the whole theme of "Baby Got Back", whether it's square or round, is inappropriate viewing matter for children.
On that tip, I kind of have to agree, depending on the age of the child. Of course, a 4 year old won't make this heavy connection to exploitation, chauvanism, etc, but what about the rest of them? And the best part is at the end where Sir Mix a Lot says "Booty is booty". Well....we adults know what that REALLY means when being uttered by a grown man. Don't need me to explain, do ya? ;) There's another word I could substitute for "booty" that's not quite as nice. Let's just leave it at that.

Anyhow, what do you think? Is Burger King's new Sir Mix a Lot square butts commercial offensive and inappropriate for the demographic it's trying to target, or just good old, harmless fun? Should we just get over it already? I can tell you for sure, I'm not digging it. I'm not hating it so hard, but not liking it either.

Watch Out for Hungry!!

Watching Hungry trying to pull all his little tricks to sabotage your healthy eating habits is actually pretty hilarious, and the main reason I'm loving this Weight Watcher's commercial right now. Check him out....he's relentless!

That's exactly how Hungry acts when he's at my house, too! ;)

I Have Prevailed!!!! :)

UPDATE!!!

Guys! I went and visited that guy's site today, and guess what?? HE TOOK ALL OF MY ARTICLES DOWN OFF HIS SITE!!! ALL 15 of them!! Yeaaahhhhhhhh!
DON'T MESS WITH THE DIVA!!!

I have to say that I'm glad that my efforts to get this guy to see the light paid off.
I'm sure he'll think twice about trying to rip off anyone else!

Once again, I'm gonna say, if someone is out here ripping off your content, don't sit by silently letting it happen. Go after them any way you can! Even if there is no info, you can deal with their host companies, affiliates, Google, spam them with emails, post about their transgression on your website and Stumble or Digg it to death, and my absolute favorite, PUBLISH THEIR PRIVATE CONTACT INFO TO THE ENTIRE INTERNET letting the world know what a thieving ass they are. I'm kind of betting that this was one of the big guns in my arsenal, besides just contacting his host company and sending Cease and Desist and Takedown letters to both the web host and the offender. Nobody wants that type of info to come up on them when they are Googled.

I want to thank you guys for all the supportive emails and words of advice.

Now, I can move on, and continue to post my best for you all, and do my thing without having to go kick somebody's ass! Anybody else out there copying me, know that I'm going to come after you, guns blazing!! ;)

I Have a Great Domain Name for Sale

I'm selling this domain because I can't give it the attention it deserves. Bought this a few years ago when I was just starting out, and just learning a little HTML.
That's one reason you will see the incredibly simple web page I'm parking it on. (it was one of my first!)

WorkForYourselfNow.com

Without me doing any work whatsoever with this site in quite some time, and with no effort at all on my part, it already has a page rank of 1. It's already linked on 6 of my other sites, including The Fitness Diva, and on all 44 pages of my Celebrity Diets and Fitness site (that one has a ton of search engine juice), as well as on all 4 pages of my Slim This Body website, which is why it has the little bit of link juice that it does have, and I will definitely keep all links intact on said sites.

Do a Google search on the words "work for yourself now" and it comes up #1 on the very first page. Add that to the bonus of roughly 60 deep links already included and you're off to a great start with this domain! :)

I might go and try to sell this on Sitepoint, but figured, why not try here first?

If interested, make me an offer. The domain is already paid up until December/09.
Email me at exceptional_fitness@yahoo.com. If we strike a deal, Paypal is my preferred method of payment. The domain will be yours quicker than you can blink an eye.

A Fitness Blogger Has Created An Entire Site Using My Content - Here is His Personal Info

Remember when I told you guys that this blog constantly has an attack of the copycats? Well, I found a person that started a blog in February, and has used over 15 of my posts to keep his own blog full of content.
I did a search on one of my article titles and got his/her site. This guy (or girl) stole the posts, complete with the pics. The dummy even stole the pics with my URL clearly printed across them, and my personal photos that I put in posts, too. What an idiot!
However, he/she claims him/herself as the author of all the works, and there is not one link connecting back to me. I have already begun actions as advised to his/her ISP provider, etc.
Here is his/her personal info:

His/Her Name - Hjalte Sofienfryd
His/Her Address - Hedeparken 121 1 Th
PostCode 2750
Ballerup, DK
His/Her Phone # - +45.21862286
His/Her Email - hjalte81@gmail.

I will not post which site he's on, because I refuse to dignify his site with a link. However, all you fitness/health bloggers should do a search on your article titles and see if there are duplicates on the net. If you do, you can email me and I'll let you know if it's the same site. He/she has a few other articles besides mine on there that are probably stolen as well. He obviously can't write for himself.
Why do people who have no writing skills, no brain of their own and no clue try to have blogs? What an ASS!
I'm so sick of this!
His website is 95% MY CONTENT!!!

Check on yours and if people are copying you, GO AFTER THEM!
