A Big, Fat Double Standard

It's been going on for decades now, but the past few years has definitely seen it not just increasing, but actually being shown as the norm. It actually pisses me off a little.

Look familiar? I'm seeing it in almost every television commercial, on too many TV sitcoms to list, in movies and in print ads. It's literally being shoved down our throats and force fed to us daily. You can't watch a simple ad for cereal or phone service without being bombarded with it.

I really would like to know why we are constantly being shown a large size or obese man with a slim, trim, obviously works out and eats right (or doesn't eat at all) woman? Yet, you hardly ever see a plus sized woman portrayed as the wife/girlfriend of a slim, fit, good looking guy? They always show it in reverse. They barely even show just two average sized people on TV anymore - the guy/boyfriend/husband is always fat, the woman, perfectly thin. I see these images constantly on commercials for Best Buy, Verizon, Circuit City, McDonald's, Kmart, Target, Sprint, Burger King, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

Now that you don't have to be "perfect" to be on television, it seems like the fat guys are getting all the work. But what about the women? I wouldn't care if there was at least some equality. Show me a large sized woman with slim, finely muscled, handsome hottie sitting on the couch, or in the appliance store helping her pick out the DVR, or playfully helping her toss salad or chop vegetables in the kitchen.
Or, get this, a large size COUPLE. That's actually more realistic. That's actually the version that I see more often when out in public. Where both partners are large.
It actually makes more sense, because most couples tend to live a similar lifestyle under the same roof. There are exceptions, but for the most part, if the goose is eating Mickey D's 24-7, then so is the gander.

And by the way, why are fat men still more acceptable on TV than fat women? I know this whole trend dates as far back as The Honeymooners with Ralph and Alice Kramden, but now that the industry is being all fair and PC, why not just go all the way? I'd like to see just as many big women on the tube as I see big men. It's only fair!

Now, I'm not advocating being overweight here....just talking about equity. I'm always about what's fair. If I get two, you get two, too. Even Steven. Unless you're my younger brother. With him, it was always who was quick enough to get the last piece or the bigger half (of anything)....
Anyway...

I'm sick of seeing the fat guy with the skinny girl. Unless you're going to balance the scales and also show the other version (big woman/small man), then, just stop it!
It seems to me that they're teaching women to be completely accepting of men in any size, shape or form, but for men, a slim, trim woman who goes to the gym while he sits on the couch eating chips...hey, that's just how it's supposed to be! I SO disagree, and women consumers also should pipe up a little about this.
To me, this teaches males that they don't have to take care of their bodies or bother much with grooming, being healthier, etc...no matter what, they still deserve a slim, hot chick. Fat girls are out!
Always go for the super model type, big guy!
A really good woman shouldn't care that you're pushing 400+ lbs! If she does, she's shallow! But you? You're not being shallow for only trying to pick skinny women. You're just.... being a guy....

Girls are being taught to be more forgiving and to just accept a mate regardless of what size he is. You want a slim, fit, good looking guy who takes care of his body? How superficial!!! You should be ashamed of yourself! True beauty is on the inside! How dare you not give the
obese/chubby/portly guy a chance!
What's really unfortunate is seeing the media avidly enforcing this imbalanced point of view....

So.....in conclusion, if size really doesn't matter anymore, then where are the big girls on TV? Either put both, or none at all. That's all I'm sayin'.....
Let's just make it fair.

Dance Your Ass Off -- Thumbs Up!

OK, am loving this show. And I'm not a fan of these weight loss shows like The Biggest Loser or DietTribe (fitness and helping people lose weight is my lifestyle - don't need to watch it on TV). I also can't seem to get into Dancing With the Stars, America's Got Talent or American Idol either, for whatever reason.
However, while clicking through the channels one night in search of yet another crime show, I let the remote linger for a few minutes on "Dance Your Ass Off", the show that has overweight individuals competing in both dancing and losing weight. It's actually DWTS meets Biggest Loser, complete with a weigh in after your dance performance.

What got me was seeing how hard these folks work to get those routines down, routines, I might add, that would be just about as challenging for normal weight people. Not only do they do it, but week after week they go all out, and in quite spectacular fashion.
I still can't get over in week two one of the contestants on the floor doing the worm!!! Kudos to them for busting their asses to put it out there, and also for doing what they have to do to take off the pounds.

Okay, gotta admit that the stars and stripes getup is a bit much, but I still have to give them an "A" for effort! ;)

Truth be told, though, what also keeps me coming back are the fashions! This is the first time I've ever seen large sized people portrayed so glamorously, with glitzy, spangly, sometimes over the top costumes that really are fantastic! Show that body, and give 'em some razzle dazzle, I say! I think that it's great to see these people come out and strut their stuff in these amazing outfits, just like the "little people" wear, and rock it out in style! Who says you gotta be a size 2 to wear a pink shimmy dress, or orange faux leather pants with holes down the side?? Not this show!! LOVE IT, and I also want to find some of those dresses for myself! That pink fringe dress that Shayla had on last episode...I would kill in that thing! Gimme that dress, Shayla! lol! :)

Don't necessarily have a favorite, but I wish them all luck. They work hard and are very entertaining and lovely to watch all done up in this outrageous finery. What more could you ask for? Keep up the good work, DYAO contestants, and keep the spectacular and quite amazing costumes coming! If you guys haven't yet seen this show, check it out! It's definitely worth a look see!
And may the best man or woman win!

It's Sexy Time!!

Whoooo....summertime, summertime. The sun is coming out, and the shirts are coming off! This is my favorite time of year, because all those who have been working diligently like good little fitness divas get to show off all their hard work in shorts, tank tops, speedos, bikinis and hot little outfits that show 'em what you're workin' with!
And nothing makes it more worthwhile for me than seeing some fine, chiseled, muscley men out here strutting their stuff. A guy who works out hard always gets my notice! Then, we hope for the intellect to be not that far behind... ;)

Anyway, speaking of man candy, these here fellas have popped up on my radar lately. They've been working out hard all winter long. Can't you tell? ;)

Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins has definitely been putting some work in! Give that boy a bonus! Nice, lean and clean! ;)

Marat is without a doubt, still the sexiest Y chromosome to ever step up on a tennis court. He might not be able to win the big one, but he beats them all in sexy points hands down. Hopefully he'll still be around to ogle for a few more years...

Okay, this is my future husband. Hands off!! IF I can ever get my butt up to Canada! And can get him to stop training for, like, 5 minutes!
George St. Pierre just embodies everything perfect there could ever be in a man; athleticism, good looks, intelligence, morality, dedication, politeness... DAMN! They just need to mass produce him! Why can't you find guys like this just walking down the street?

Now, I'm not exactly sure who this guy is (Jeremy Bloom), but I would definitely let him work out with me. And spot me, for sure. This amount of dedication to perfect form deserves some recognition. That's why he's here! Let us all hope to see many more like him on the streets where we live.... ;)

okay.... I'm done drooling for now. But, don't ya just love a guy that works out and who also manages to have all the other pieces of the package, to boot?
I know I do. I could just feast my eyes on them all day long!
I need to get out more. I need to watch more tennis, MMA, football and get me a membership to Equinox ASAP! Think I'll run into these guys if I do? ;)

Wanna Know My Weight Loss Secret?

Of course I have little tricks I use to keep the weight off! And they work! Without killing you or making you sick.... VERY important, by the way! ;)

......oh, now you're wondering, aren't you? Well, here is one thing that's been keeping weight off of me without me having to even try that hard. Wanna try to guess?
Okay, I'll stop toyin' with ya....here it is.....

Eating a good amount of fruit. Yep! What did you think it was going to be? Lipo?? Well, sorry if it doesn't seem so exciting or revolutionary, but I've found that eating several servings of fruit a day has helped to keep me happy, full, satisfied and also well supplied with the vital nutrients that my body needs to function at a high level, which is important, since I'm a very active person.

Now, there's a way to go about it that makes all the difference. It's not about popping oranges and cherries all day long. I eat a variety of fruits, and eat the more fibery ones early on in the day, and save my more fleshy selections like watermelon and bananas for midday and on into the evening.
In the morning; apples, pears, fresh peaches (firm ones), oranges, grapefruit
Midday and evening; watermelon, cherries, bananas, cantaloupe, red grapes.

I don't eat all of the above daily, but you will find at least 4 these on my menu every single day. And I'm gonna tell you, since I love fruit so much, it's something that requires little or no effort on my part.

In between, I eat my regular meals, but with all the fruit I consume, I have to tell you, I'm finding that I don't have much of an appetite usually, and actually have to remind myself to eat full meals on some days!! Now, I gotta tell you also, NEVER in my life's history has that EVER happened!! I have spent my entire life being hungry ALL THE TIME, but just doing this one thing has made a world of difference in how often I snack and eat. Getting a handle on your snacking is key, because snacking in between meals accounts for more of your excess calories than you realize.
When I do eat, my meals tend to be well balanced, with protein, veggies and some type of grain. However, I will still have fries, a milkshake or a cheeseburger on occasion. I'm finding also that I don't have to deny myself anything. Every now and then I get a craving, and if I decide to, I'll just go ahead and have it. Hello, Haagen Dazs!

Hell, the other day I had grits, bacon and eggs for breakfast (with some peaches on the side, ha!), which doesn't sound that bad at first, but the calorie content in that type of breakfast is kind of high. But, the thing is, I feel firmly in control. I can have it or not have it, whatever it is. And I never feel deprived or starved, either way.
I get my veggies in, too, but for me, the fruit is the thing.
I know that I could actually subsist on a diet of nothing but fruit, fish and a little grain at this point, but I'm not quite gonna go there....yet! ;)

In the meantime, try adding some more fruit selections to your daily diet, and see if this makes a difference for you. All I know is that I've been waking up every morning for the past few months looking svelte as hell, and one thing that has changed in my routine is that I'm eating more fruit. Works for me, and it might work for you too! :)

Venus or Serena? Which Body Type are You?

Even though they are sisters, and the two strongest forces in women's tennis today, Venus and Serena Williams couldn't be any more different than night and day.
This seems to go down the line.... Venus is tall, slim, long legged and lithe, while Serena's bod is what some call "thick", muscular, obviously powerful and also the type that picks up the pounds more easily. I'm thinking that Venus is the one that can eat back to back cheeseburgers without picking up a lb, while Serena has to work a lot harder to stay in fighting tennis shape.
Of the two of them, I'm definitely Serena. I have that same powerful, brick shit house body.... I call it 'muscles and curves"! I think that's why I'm more partial to Serena. When I see her out there on the tennis court, I see ME. A girl that picks up both muscle and fat easily, and who has to work really hard to keep both in check. It ain't no picnic, believe me!
I'm the type of girl that makes guys say "please don't hurt me", when I walk into a club. LOL! The wimps! I'm sure Serena knows exactly what I mean! ;)

Me and my Serena bod

When it comes to the personalities, I'm more like Serena, too. She is the more outgoing and outwardly emotional of the two, and you can tell that she's the party girl, while Venus seems to be more the shy type that keeps to herself. Venus dates a golf pro, while Serena dates a rapper. (I can't stand rappers, though, so that's where we differ) Serena really embraces her sexy side, while Venus tends to keep it covered. The differences just go on and on! ;)

At any rate, I can't wait to see the both of them try to win the 2009 Wimbledon title at center court tomorrow! I really want to see them try to kill each other the way they do those other girls on the circuit! No Miss Nice Williams, okay girls?

So, which Williams sister body and/or personality type are you? Like I said, the two couldn't be any more different!

Go, Serena!;)
