Time to Get Out and Move It!

Ok, peeps, the summer is now just about here. No more time for excuses. Even if you don't have a gym membership, you can go outside and do all kinds of things now. You've got organized adult sports, Mommy groups, boot camps up the wazoo, and even just going to the park for a jog, bike ride or some roller blading. These are all open options for you now that the weather is right.

As for me, I think I'll dust off the old tennis racquet and see if I still have any skills...of what little I did have.... ;). I promised myself that I'd hit the courts and polish up some skills last year and never did it. Since we have to pay $100 for a park permit to use park courts for the season (April to October), I'm going to give myself extra incentive to work my tennis this summer by going and purchasing my permit on Monday. Trust me, paying that $$$$ will get me out to the courts like nothing else can, because I hate wasting money. Once that permit is in my hand, I will be out there hitting balls and scouting for partners every other day to make sure I get my money's worth!

So, what's your summer game? And yes, you should have one! This great weather is an opportunity to get out there and move, soak up some vitamin D and have fun.
So, what are you going to be doing? Whatever it is, do it as hard and heartily as you can and enjoy!

The New Karate Kid with Jaden Smith - I'm In!

Now, I don't know if it's because I have a soft heart for "beat your bully" stories, a love of anything that has to do with martial arts or the fact that Jaden is just so damn cute, but I'm going to plunk my money down and go to the theatre for this one. Mind you, that's something I only do once a year, and when that happens, it had better be worth it!

The updated version of The Karate Kid, originally done by Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita was a great franchise in and of itself. And who the hell knew that Macchio was like a 35 year old man or something when he filmed it? (is that rumor true??)

Now, can we talk about how ridiculously adorable this kid Jaden is? Oh boy, the little girls he's going to be fighting off for the rest of his young days. I also predict that there will be more than a few broken hearts in his future. I already have thoughts of hooking him up with my 10 year old nieces. lol! But, the kid looks like he really trained hard, and let's not forget about Jackie Chan, who I do enjoy checking out every now and then. Here's hoping that the combo of these two turns out to be a good one, and that the movie rocks! It comes out in June. If any of you catch it, come back and let me know what you thought about it. I'm hoping that it does well.

So I'm Going for a Degree in IT.....!

...just in case you aren't in the know.... ;)

Among all the other goals I initiated this year, I also, out of the clear blue, decided to go to school to pursue my first college degree in Information Technology. So, among everything else that's going on, I now have classes, assignments and a GPA to worry about. Luckily for me, I feel ready to take it all on.
This is my first time attending college, and I came to the decision to go for the IT degree because I am just so damn in love with the web that I want to be able to contribute even more to it! When I first started building websites from bare bones HTML and then began blogging a few short years ago, I had no idea how much more in love with the web I would soon become. I live to blog, build sites, create all types of content both visual and written, and to just be one of the regular contributors to this vast, amazing thing called the internet. My increased efforts at blogging for the past couple years only made that even more clear to me. The fact that I can stay on my comp for two days without going outside is another sign that this just might be my next true calling.... ;)
(Honestly, I could live in a cave as long as I have an internet connection, a supply of food and some grass to go out and play on every now and then. Seriously! I need nothing more! ;) )

At the same time that I'm pursuing this, my brother is also going for a degree in IT. It was actually his decision to do it that helped spur me on. He's not as experienced as me on web stuff, but hey, that's why I'm here! He's going for his general degree in IT, specializing in Network Systems, while I'm specializing in becoming a Software Developer. Can anybody else smell a family business in our future? I can!

I also really want to go far beyond just being able to build sites and blogs -- I want to be able to create my own programs and applications. Many have been the times that I've wanted to have a particular feature on a blog of mine, but it doesn't exist, and I have to use some little widget that kind of does what I'm looking for, but not quite. At the end of this road, I'll be able to make it myself, and I do already have a few ideas for programs I'd like to write and create for specific websites I'm planning to build very soon.
I want my future websites to be totally interactive with specific features, and right now, I don't see any of these ideas I have in mind out there. So, in a few short years, I'll just create them myself! ;)

In the meantime, as the first semester wraps up, I'm already getting A's.... ;)
In one of my first classes "Introduction to Computers and the Internet", I seriously had an unfair advantage! Many people coming into college are not bloggers and webbies, and therefore have to learn everything from the ground up. I have to tell you, I aced every assignment I was given in that class. We also had to do Powerpoint presentations (one of our requirements in this class was learning the entire Microsoft Office Suite), and my professor was more than impressed at my ability to "create a cohesive presentation that flowed, was visually pleasing" and that "blended visual, audio and other types of media with the written content perfectly". Hmmmmm..... now, where did I learn to do that? he he he...:) Being a blogger is actually coming in handy, and I'm glad. Heck, integrating media and presenting well formed and artfully put together content is what we bloggers do! I'm so happy that I wasted spent so much time out here building blogs, creating web content, learning how to edit and create images, and tending to websites! It's helping me get good grades straight out the box!

I plan to keep up with my blogging, but school definitely now comes first! I know it's about to get serious because one of the next classes on deck for me is "College Level Algebra". A BIG UT OH on that, cuz I haven't even looked at an algebraic equation even sideways in since...FOREVER!!! Much of my free time will be spent in someplace called "the Math Lab" where I will be urgently refamiliarizing myself with mathematical formulas, methods and all this stuff I haven't had to do for years. Here is where my brain will certainly begin to hurt, trust me! But, in the meantime, I will still be out here blogging, dropping those damn cards, and trying to keep up my presence on the WWW. Oh yeah, and still being "The Fitness Diva".

Wish me luck! ;)

Lawrence Taylor in Paid For Sex Scandal - aka "Why Famous People Do Dumb Things"

Ok, none of us are angels, of course. Well, MOST of us are not angels, so I'm not judging the act perpetrated here. I'm remarking on the sheer and absolute stupidity of the act. And while I do know a bit about his history, I can't begin to say that I have a clue what's going on in LT's life these days.
However, I must say, how can he be THIS stupid??

First of all, I'm not sure why he's having to pay for sex -- I'm sure he can still rely on his past fame to get some, especially here in good old New York, New York. I'm sure that there are still standing ovations and many pats on the back whenever he steps into any NY or NJ bar...along with more than a few both old and young women who would latch onto any famous guy in their midst in a second. This guy is a bit of a legend here, with two Super Bowl trophies and the honor of being an NFL Hall of Famer. Hell, lesser athletes and even the average, good looking guy walking down the street can get lucky with the ladies on much less. So, why would he end up paying for sex in a seedy roadside motel in a tryst arranged by some seedy pimp? The entire scenario just defies logic. Just plain dumb, really. Dumb, dumb, DUMB.

The Glory Days

Anyhow, let's just say he stepped in it big time, now that it has been found out that the girl is underage (and, like, couldn't you tell???). To their credit, law enforcement is also going after this pimp big time, but in the meantime, Lawrence Taylor can kiss any hint of future endorsements or future anythings goodbye. Hey, he just got that Nutrisystem contract recently, but guess what? That just went up in smoke. They dropped him like a hot potato. For an aging athlete with his glory days tucked far, far back in the past, these endorsement opportunities become fewer and farther in between. That football money only lasts but so long -- after a while you look up and realize that you still need to do something to pay the bills. He just shot himself in the foot on that one, trust me.

What makes these famous people do such stupid things? For not so famous folks, it's different - the press isn't there waiting for you to f up, and even if they were, they wouldn't give a damn. We get to commit all of our little sins and faux pas in the shadows. However, for the famous, and even the almost famous - not so much.
I can only ponder "what the hell were they thinking?"
