Did You Know....?

....that recent reports state that watermelon can have the same effect as Viagra on men? Yep! Stop the presses!

The flesh and rind of watermelon contain citrulline, an agent which can trigger the production of arginine, an amino acid which boosts nitric acid in the body. Nitric acid relaxes the blood vessels, which is necessary for erectile function. That's the same thing that Viagra does in men. Nitric oxide can also have a positive effect on high blood pressure and other cardiovascular ailments.

The amount of watermelon that a man must consume to be 'effective' is still debatable, but right now six cups is thought to produce enough citrulline to elevate the body's arginine levels enough to show some results.

In a recent study, a group of men drank 3 8oz glasses of watermelon juice a day for 3 weeks, thus boosting their arginine levels by 11%. The highest levels of citrulline, however, are found in the watermelon rind.

Since it's so low calorie and tasty, you can conduct these studies on your own, eh?
"Watermelon - it's not just for summer anymore!" :D

Eat up, guys! ;)

iwalk, I don't think it has any effect on women, except for the fact that it's good for your circulatory system.
No worries....it will NOT make you manly in any way! ;)

Actually it does have an effect on females, just like men, the better the blood flow the better it is. L-Arginine also helps with stress also. By lowering your blood pressure, it helps relax the body.
Nice post here, a note for thought. The two guys that discovered the effects of arginine and the production of nitro in the body won the Pulitzer prize for their findings.

Hi Fitness Diva,

I can consume a lot of watermelon and I am so fond of its refreshing effect. But I know I don't need it as a substitute for viagra. LOL!

Very informative and certainly valuable information for John McCain. LOL! Thanks for sharing. :-) --Durano, done!

My husband loves watermelon. LOL! Wait until I tell him about this.

That is very interesting. I've never heard that one before. My husband doesn't eat watermelon because it makes his mouth itch. Hopefully he won't ever need something like that either. Great information!

Hmmm I've never noticed any effect other than a smile...then again I don't need help in that area.

Now I wanna test it out more...

I see this fruit will now be available all year round. And what a great motivation to get your daily intake of your fruits and veggies... Now if you can find a green leaf that will do the same trick... I think everyone would have a well balanced diet.

Hmm ... who would have known that something that is not so expensive and good for health at the same time can be so beneficial to men. I'm going to look at watermelon with a new perspective. :)
