Nasty Gym Etiquette

To the people who blow their noses into the public towels at the gym...

-
-
-
-
-
Please.....
-
-
-
-
-
STOP IT!!! You're grossing me the hell out!

OMG!
As I'm teaching on certain days, I'm witness to this strange, nasty phenomenon, performed only by a select few.
The same towel that they use to wipe off their sweat, of the towels that the entire gym population uses, and that we all hope and pray are thenafter thoroughly cleaned, are transformed into an instant snot rag. EEWWW! I can't take it..... seriously! :O

Now, I know that you have this instant urge to blow, but you know we keep tissues in the studio JUST for that purpose!
Because of this, I'm loathe to use these public towels, and am aware that they're probably used for far more worse things in the locker room. (I just try not to think too hard about that...)
What makes people think it's no biggie to just blow your nose mucus into a towel provided to you by the gym? And some of the nicest people, too! Ugh! Help!
I just try not to look when they do this. It's the only way I can go on....
Please. Use the tissues, people. I'm begging you!

I have to agree there. Even worse for me is when someone just walks into the cardio room after having smoked a cigarette and I am running at my full tilt and the only air I want in my lungs at this point is so not a smell of dead ashtray ....yuk...instant vomit there:( Oh...and girls...please leave the perfume bottles at home. A gym is suppose to smell like a gym not like an Avon convention:)

This type of behavior is not a right manner because the possibility to past the virus is so easily which the affect to others health. Anyway, keep up the good work and hope to see more updates coming from you.

Dorothy, at a couple of our locations, they actually had to tell certain personal trainers not to take smoke breaks standing out in FRONT of the gym! Not only is that bad etiquette, but it's just plain CRAZY!
Imagine walking up to the gym and checking out your personal trainer grabbing a smoke! LOL! Hilarious, but also ridiculous!
I think the ladies with the perfume are trying to make sure you don't smell sweat on them.
Guess they're trading one strong smell for another! LOL!
Thanks for stopping by.

Mercola, thank you so much. I was thinking about that even more while this swine flu epidemic rages on. And even in the midst of that, there again was someone in one of my classes blowing their nose into a towel. Unbelievable! Some people just don't think!
Thanks for the visit.

omg! I already have people blowing their noses in public issues and now this. Gross, gross, gross. Foul yuck diva!

Heidi, you and I are on the same page, here.
My pet peeve is people blowing their noses at the dinner table. I've never quite understood that!
Here you are, enjoying a meal at a restaurant, and all of a sudden, someone whips out a tissue (or worse, their dinner napkin!), and proceeds to just snort it on out.
I'm like WTF???
Some people really just don't get how nasty that is. I don't want to hear you blowing your snot while I'm trying to eat! :O
I was taught to excuse myself, and go to the restroom to do that.
Guess we're all raised a bit differently, eh?

Diva, I can't hold it anymore and I must say one word here: Gross!

That's why I rarely go to the gym, as I'm feeling very irritate, especially when I saw some people spit the yellowish sputum on the towels, it's totally disgusting to use that kind of towels.

It is sad how there are some people who can't even interact on an acceptable social level. Something really went wrong there.

I am lucky enough that at the gyms I go to, there is a pretty high standard and the owners have no issue to kick out or ban members who feel like they can do what they please and not be considered of others.

Ooooh, that's very yucky!

I think that gym owners should list down all etiquette in a poster and hung it in all places of the gym.
Etiquette like 'no smoking','don't use towel for blowing' should be listed there.

Thanks
Neo

One of the MANY reasons I do not belong to a gym. I train outside in the open air, or in the garage with the door open and do whatever exercise I want how and when I want too. To me it takes me back to what must have been a simpler time, AND no crowds, dirty towels, foot bacteria or whatever. For those that do HAVE TO go to a gym. You have my sympathy

To me, there are few things inside a gym that are not gross...that's why I workout at home, amongst my own grossness.

ewwww..... this is so gross!

It gives me the shudders when I think of the public towels I used. yucks.

I agree with you on that too; it has never crossed my mind to blow into towel. Whenever I needed to blow, it was always into tissue. May be a little environmental not friendly but hygiene wise, it is definitely better. And if there is a toilet, I will rather go to the toilet to blow it out and to wash so I don't have to use a tissue.

That is gross on so many levels!

Daisy, yucky just begins to describe it!

EC, I just try not to think about it, either. And try to travel with my own small towel. At least I know where that's been!

KY, I agree. Signs should be put up advising people of certain protocols for cleanliness and good hygiene. It's a shame that it's needed.

BK, who would think of that? Why would you want to wipe your mucus onto yourself (GROSS!) while drying off your sweat? They are definitely not thinking clearly!!

Strong, I agree. It's best not to even try to picture it. I, unfortunately can, because i've seen it enough times to make me puke.

Wilson, Apollo, Mike and Robert, I don't have too much of a choice - I work at the gym!
But I'll tell you, seeing the way people really are and the nasty habits that some have has made me tighten up my own hygienic routines.
I now wash my hands more often than I ever have in my life! I'm almost OCD about it! I also take longer to wash them, making sure to clean thoroughly under my nails.
Won't touch any of the surfaces in a public toilet without using a towel or tissue to protect my hand.
If you sneeze around my I cover MY nose and mouth! lol!
I swear, I'm like that guy on that show Monk. And it's from knowing how nasty everyone else is. I was never this squeamish years ago!

Ewwwwww! Totally gross! Why don't they just bring their own towels instead?

Ya Diva ,
I do agree with you.
We need to maintain some discipline at that place also as taste of everybody is not same and so some of the things should be compulsarily restricted .Both hygienically and also it makes some persons irritable for that behavior pattern which can lead to decrease in their clientage also.

Hope they understand and try to maintain a list of do's and don'ts as a part of gym etiquette,
Anyways nice post,
dr jignesh

It's happens here!

So I never use public towels at the gym.

I also think if they can't stop such thing, it's better don't offer such service at gym.

gym was the best investment I ever made. gym has really helped our business. It's exactly what I've been looking for.

Fit Jerk said...

That's messed up. If i worked at that gym, they'd totally get an earful.

And what's with personal trainers smoking? That's so retarded I don't even know where to begin.

Id NEVER hire a personal trainer that smokes... no matter HOW good they look. It just goes against everything that your business is about.

And if you're a personal trainer that's "offended" by my words... too bad. Puff it off!

Dwacon said...

Snot... blood... feces.

I hope they use plenty bleach when they wash them...

EWWWW that's disgusting. I've honesetly never seen that. Why not just take 2 min to go to the bathroom and get some tissue. DISGUSTING!
