Jump Rope Workout - Unorthodox Pt 1

Here is the second installment in my "Jump" series. As I stated before, I love jumping because it tackles so many elements of fitness at once, and gets you ripped pretty fast. Here, I'm showing you three different exercises to do with a jump rope, but not the usual way. Check it out:

--stop my autoplay vid in the upper right corner to get this in real time--

When using a rope on the ground, find some way to secure it so that it creates a taut, straight line and doesn't roll away. I used two 4lb dumbbells, and wrapped each end around once. You can also use two ropes, taped together in the middle to get a longer jump lane.
Side note: Be sure to jump on the balls of your feet, not flat footed. Also, bend those knees slightly as you land to better absorb the impact.
Remember to glance downwards from time to time so that you don't step on the rope! ;)

Wow...I'm impressed! You make it look so easy!

I've never been able to do anything in in the way of jumping...I get a headache almost immediately!

Cheers

Nice job. How do you usually structure it? Sessions per week? Sets? Reps? For time? Is it part of a workout? During the warm up?

I cannot jump rope to save my life.

You got skills. But you knew this already.

One of the great exercise is rope jumping i.e. skipping. It builds stamina and also give strength to our knee muscles.

Holy. Cow. I know this isn't 1/gazillionth as easy as you make it look.

At the risk of sounding like a total dork, I would love it if you would write a post on ways to get in shape during a normal daily routine. Aren't there ways to inject some exercise into emptying the dishwasher (for example), that will help those of us who want to get in shape, but aren't?

I can't think of a better person to write something like that. I would love to know of some ways I could start small...so one day, I can do that jump rope workout! :)

This is a really creative idea - I'm going to try it! I like that you can get cardio and work on your thighs and calves at the same time.
