Competition

As humans, I think it's just a natural instinct to try to be better than the next one, to get more light, get more shine, more accolades, more acknowledgement than the next one. To stand head and shoulders above the crowd. The winner does get the biggest prize, after all, right?

I started being competitive when my younger brother was born. He was born when I was six. Until he came along, I was the big thing in the household, see. I ruled! And I liked it that way! ;)
But then, ut oh, here comes a boy child. I don't know if this is the case in most families, but all of a sudden, when a son is born, OMG, it's like the seas just parted or something. Suddenly, I was not the hot ticket anymore! At that point, I think I began working harder to at least be the more talented, smarter and more noteworthy one between us! I had to! And I haven't stopped~!! lol! Nothing will make you strive to achieve like sibling rivalry!

We all as humans compete for everything; jobs, status, mates, back in the olden times, food and just basic survival... Competition is a way of life, I guess. Hell, even bloggers are out here trying to compete on some level. I can't help but to notice that many bloggers step their game up either by copying what they see other bloggers do on their blogs (the majority compete like this), or by finding some new way to stand out. The second, I respect more, because that takes talent. The first, not at all, because if you have to copy someone else to step your game up, you really still suck, basically! LOL! Ya know? You're just copying somebody better than you! By that token, you will ALWAYS be second or third best! That just wouldn't work for me. I wouldn't be able to respect myself if the only thing I was good at was copying someone else! ;)

Anyways, how about you? Are you competitive, or are you one who just lays back and lets the chips fall where they will? How about only children versus those with siblings? Does having to compete for parents' attention as you're growing up make you more of a go getter? I wonder. I know I definitely had to step my game up when the siblings started coming. I'm guessing that this is a very common thing. I'm glad that happened for me though. Because now when I see someone trying to compete with me, I have the drive and ability to take them DOWN! From years and years of practice! Guess that's why I became a fighter so many years ago. It's just natural for me, dudes, just like breathing! BRING IT ON!~!!!!!!, I always say! I'm ready for you! Watch me!! ;)

Yes, I think that it is very natural. I competed with both my brothers from very young to the point where it became full knock down drag out fights. Good thing we finally outgrew that as we got older, though. We still compete, but now it's about our kids. My son's baseball, his son's soccer, the other has a kid in football. It's all in good fun now, though. We brag on our kids night and day, but we don't want to kill each other the way we used to!

I do think it is natural to compete to a certain degree...we all want to be good at what we do!

For me things were a bit different I'm the oldest and the only girl with three brothers...I didn't feel a strong need to compete with them...nor them with me!
Cheers

My sister and I competed over everything, clothes, grades, boyfriends. We stopped as we got older to an extent, guess we grew up and got over it!

Need everyday motivation to be competitive. If not, we will collapse. But the important things is that how you rise again.

as a kid im a happy go lucky type of person I don't compete much, but as a grow older I realize that I have to compete to get some of the things I need and want.

I think we are all competitive by nature, and I'm still that way. It just doesn't leave many of us that easy. I was the oldest of three kids, and that may explain some of it for me.

As far as blogging, it just depends on your purpose as to why you do it. Obviously, it's not good to post redundant posts like everyone else or plagiarize. Like you, I respect those who can stand out because it does take effort to do that. I don't compete against anyone but myself, and I can respect anyone's way of writing.

Thanks for your continued visits and drops my friend!

I guess everyone went through this stage. As a kid I struggled a lot in competing with my other siblings. You'll definitely grow out of it. :)

I don't think there is anything wrong with "borrowing" ideas fram someone who is successful. The key is to take what they are doing to the next level. If you can't improve or expand their concept than it should be left alone. If the original idea isn't broken, don't try to fix it. I think some of the greatest songs ever written follow this process of taking a pretty good song and making it great.

Competition is a contest between individuals, groups, animals, etc. for territory, a location of resources. It arises whenever two or more.

I have my first competition for Crossfit next month...I've been working toward this but still have a long ways to go in terms of strength. Not only am I worried about the weights (and whether I'll be able to manage them) but the fear of competition is definitely there as well. :-/
