Could I Become a Serious Runner?

After watching my friend Kerri complete the NYC marathon, I must say that I'm inspired. It looked to be a ewarding, worthwhile experience for her and for everyone else who participated. And hey, with all that training, you dont have to worry about watching one damn calorie. Eat as much as you want and still fit into anything in your wardrobe. That's what I'm talkin' about! ;) That is the workout and diet plan I have been searching for for my entire life!

I'm not a runner, but I know that I could be if I put my mind to it and did the necessary training. i used to run as part of my workout regimen, and before I fell out of it, I'd worked myself up to blazing out 8 to 10 mile runs regularly. The thing is, once I stopped, it was hard to do anything even close to that level on the few occasions that I attempted it. You really do have to stick with it and be consistent.

Should I start running again? Doing the NYC marathon is on my "bucket list". and the great thing is that if I do it now, I know I'll have a great support system. Where I live there are a ton of runners and running clubs I can join that train very close to my house. The only question now is whether or not I really have the time to dedicate to all the training and preparation I'd have to take on to do it. I have a couple months to decide. Hmmmmm......

Sure you could. My daughter did at age 34. She is the mother of 5 now, 36 and still runs.

She hopes to do the Boston Marathon someday!!

Go for it!!

Every runner I know is hooked. But they are always complaining about sore knees. The doctor tells them to lay off the running for a few months and let it heal up, but they wont or can't! When they get old they will suffer big time!

Is number 11 your friend?

And a co-worker of mine ran in this year's NYC Marathon as well. He trained for two months then went mountain climbing in Ecuador 2 weeks after that. And no, he's NOT a health nut. So if he can do it, you certainly can.

Do it! I'm no runner either, but have decided to give myself the (much smaller) goal of a 15k in March. Training for it starts today and I'm terrified, but it's a way to push myself and look/feel great!

Becoming a runner improves your entire body without lifting weights and it builds up your cardiovascular system. Your endurance is enhanced and you can be more tone throughout your body. Age is not a brick wall for you at all. Go for it!!!

Of course you can - just slowly build back up again. I used to be very unfit, but started running 4-5 times per week. I started with a 10 minute run, then have slowly built up and I can now run quite long distances without getting overally out of breath. Go for it!

You definitely should. Just sign up for it and start training!! I did the Disney marathon a couple years ago and it was an amazing experience.. tough? yes absolutely, but there was so much energy! Definitely worthwhile! :)
