"No Server on Port 80".... What the Hell???

I have been building my own websites using Microsoft Frontpage for a couple years now, and my system has always been reliable and worked just fine. So, I go to open my Frontpage today, and get this message "no server on port 80", and therefore, I can't get into my Frontpage application to work on and update my websites! What the...??
I now have 10 websites that I can't create new pages for and tend to. This sucks!!
How does this just happen out of the clear blue? I have had a nasty adware or two come through here, but cleaned it right up. I've been trouble shooting this thing all morning, and can't figure it out. Anybody ever have this happen to their system? What the hell do you do to fix this??

I don't know but I feel for you. I remember when my blog went down a couple of months ago, it was tragic. I did a web search and fixed the problem from there.. Come to find out it was a script error in some file I never even heard of.

I wish you great luck and success. I wasn't aware that people still used that program though.

Thanks, Urban. I will tinker around with it for a bit more, and then I'll probably call the computer guy.

Yes, people still use Microsoft Frontpage! lol I built my first website on it, and love the easy use of it. Have tried a couple others, but just go right back to my FP, because it's the simplest program you can find to build your own webs, imo.
Not blogs, websites. Blogs are easy; just find a platform (blogger, WP, whatever), and template and then start tinkering with it.
I still love building websites from scratch, though.

Double check that all of the application of the host server are fully functioning. This will most likey require the assistance on your hosting service's tech support. Then reboot the computer you upload from. Often times windows computers can suffer from a "stale socket" Rebooting it will have an imediate effect of fixing it if that is the problem.

Last would be to check for any damaged software. Fixing this can be as simple as re-installing your applications with the repair feature checked or as complex as a full format and total re-install.

Always start with the easiest fixes first.

Good luck in fixing the problem. I hope its an easy fix.

I cannot help you there Diva, but I did pick up a virus from somewhere last week while dropping cards. It shut my computer down completely and I had to reinstall all of my browsers and everything. None of the programs on my computer would work. Luckily Norton was on top of it and started cleaning it up when I restarted computer.

Thank you so much, Matthias. I will take another crack at it in the morning, and try these things you mentioned. I appreciate your help!

Dwayne, the same has happened to me dropping cards. I picked up something off a site that completely shut my comp down as well. It's hard to tell which one did it also, when you have multiple windows open at the time. I need to upgrade my virus shield.

That's scary, because I also picked up some malware when I was dropping Enrecards, too! This was a few weeks ago.

mmm, I'm no programmer but of what I know from friends, Frontpage is awful.

What I would suggest is try wordpress. It's currently at the stage where you can do pretty much whatever you feel like; add, remove sidebars, pages, posts , use countless widgets etc. from your own management platform behind the fancy layout everybody sees.

I'm not sure I make perfect sense, but just give it a try or ask me something you would like to know in particular. For me, WP is heaven :)

Thanks for the tips, miss tique, but I use Frontpage for websites, not blogging.
I like the Frontpage application very much. I've used it extensively, and have built some pretty good sites with it.

I'll get this thing figure out soon enough! ;)

G&G's Mom here. I have been using FrontPage for 12 years for my business web site (not a blog). Have you checked with your host? Do you have the Server Extensions Installed?

I do not self-host, because I do not have the technical knowledge necessary if there ever were a problem. FP is very user-friendly for building a web site, but my livelihood depends on my website being up. My host has far more technical knowledge than I have and my web site has never been down for more than an hour or so in all these years.

I hope you get it figured out!

Thanks for the input, G & G's mom.

I will call my host if nothing else works. Installed the FP extensions long ago, and have never had a problem.
I haven't even bothered with it since yesterday... I just ran out of patience.
Will give it another try to day using Matthias' suggestions. If they don't work, then I'm calling my host provider.

My sites are up and working fine. I just can't get into them to update files!
I use Godaddy, and they're a great web host. My sites are NEVER down with their system.

Thanks again!
