A Sports Lover's Fantasy Weekend Smorgasbord!

Wow! I am still reeling from the euphoria! The past few days have been a sports lover's dream! My 3 favorite sports all rocking championship contests back to back to back! I am one happy camper!

First off, the Australian open, which saw some of the most awesome playing from the men's section EVER, ending with the win of Rafael Nadal over Roger Federer for the 2009 Australian Open title! Incredible matches through all the rounds on the men's side from Federer, Roddick, Tsonga, Monfis, Verdasco, Murray, Blake, Baghdatis and more, not to mention Marat Safin, the sexiest man in tennis! Safin has declared this grand slam to be the last match of his career. Say it ain't so, Safin! I will now have to ogle and admire him by doing Google searches! ;)

Federer wanted this one bad. He still has yet to match Pete Sampras record for grand slam wins. Next time, Roger.

On the ladies side, Serena Williams just dominated the field after she finally settled into her rhythm, dismantling Kuznetsova, Dimentieva and Dinara Safin on her way to winning the 2009 title! And she did it in true champion style!

Then, Saturday night saw a dream mixed martial arts card that included awesome fights from Karo Parisyan, Stefan Bonner (who got totally outclassed and outfought by UFC rookie, Jon Jones), Clay Guida, Thiago Silva and the headliner match up of BJ Penn and George St. Pierre (who I still love, and would marry at the drop of a dime!), with St. Pierre retaining his UFC welterweight title by knocking out Penn in the fourth round...... The fights were fantastic, well contested and also well worth the price of PPV... even though I got to see them for free! ;)

Capping it all off was Superbowl XLIII with a hotly contested match between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Did you see that clutch catch by Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes at the very end of the game? That play will be shown on highlight reels for years to come! Great way to take back the lead to win the game, and GO, Steelers! I've been a Steeler's fan from way back in the day. They are my favorite team after my NY Giants, NY Jets, and Philly Eagles. It was great to see them win!

Okay...that just about does it! I am overloaded on all the sports induced adrenaline and excitement, and have just about screamed my vocal cords hoarse in three different arenas!

Congrats to all the deserving winners, and man, I so cannot wait until next year when this awesome sports trifecta rolls around yet again! (of course, only if the UFC cooperates and books another high calibre card at the same time next year to complete this awesome lineup!).

Lovin' the afterglow of a great sports weekend! yeah! :) I am now going to go and sleep it off! :D

Like you, I was in heaven. I enjoyed watching Serena come out in destroyer mode and demolish Safin. My boy Nadal pulled it out and that made me so happy. Looks like he has Federer's number. He's only 22 and constantly adding to his game. I think he's going to be one of the greats.

We switched back and forth between Nadal/Federer and the beginning of the Super Bowl. It was a good game, even though it looked like it might be a blowout in the beginning. I'm glad the Cardinals got it together and made a game of it.

Congrats to the Steelers and Mike Tomlin, the youngest to coach and win a Super Bowl. He looked so solid, even after the Fitzgerald scored that last touchdown and took the lead. I never saw a look of worry on his face.

I stayed up (in oz) and watched the Tennis, was going for Rog, :-( I use to go for Raffa, he really is the best now.

I think they need to move the timing of the Australian Open, as it is too darn hot there to be playing tennis!

And yes, I believe the Super Bowl yesterday was as good as it gets.

Even though I was rooting for the Cardinals, it was a great game. I especially loved the Clydesdale commercial with the dancing horse.

It was definitely an action-packed and exciting sportsathon! Yeah! Serena!

Whoa there!!

Thiago Alves did NOT fight. It was Lyoto Machida who scored the dominant KO of Thiago Silva.

But I appreciate the love for combat sports.

@MMA Whoops! I always get those damn Thiagos mixed up!
Thanks for the heads up. Changing it now...

Great fights, though! :)

It was a great week for sports. The latest buzz is cheating allegations against GSP.

His corner apparently put Vaseline on his back and shoulders, which would make it harder for Penn to get his legs in position for triangles, etc.

I don't think it changed the outcome, but it's certainly not fair if it indeed happened (judging by the pictures, it did).

Okay, so I'm thinking your cool points just went up by a zillion. Any woman that interested in sports is alright in my book. I'll even overlook the fact that you actually like the Steelers (Cowboys arch-enemy). :-)
