Look at What I Just Found.... My Michael Jackson Cassette!

I, like many millions upon millions of people out there am just devastated over the loss of Michael Jackson. You just really don't realize how much of your life a certain person IS until they're gone. I've been thinking about him all morning. Before I went to sleep last night, I thought of him. I can't watch the TV coverage or the tributes anymore right now, because they just make me cry.

I decided to look through my archives of CDs and cassettes to get to his music. I'm sure we all have our collections. I've worn out many a Michael Jackson cassette or CD. In fact, I wore out two of the Thriller cassettes completely. So, imagine my delight when I looked through one of my storage boxes and found THIS:

Spank, brand new, and with the plastic wrapping intact. Well, damn! It's like waking up on Xmas and finding the very best gift of all. I've listened to this collection at different stages in my life, and can even remember the dates, places I went and relationships I was in while this music was pumping through my ears via a walkman. Pretty damn incredible to be able to get all that back and still have Michael in my life almost like he was even back then. I will probably listen to this tape, sing along, dance and cry all at the same time.

I identify greatly with Michael Jackson in many ways. A fellow Virgo, our birthdays are only 3 days apart. I understand his quest for perfection, excellence, and the need to do things in a way that nobody else already has or can. I strive for that every day of my life. I also understand his need to be the greatest thing amongst all of his peers or when on the stage....he was a Diva if there ever was one. Everything on a grand scale, and always a little something extra that you didn't expect. Knowing how to wow them, time after time. Your biggest competition always being yourself. Being the one that inspires others and who many want to emulate and be like.
Even in the midst of all that ego and pomp, there was a kind and generous heart, and a man who tried to spread a message of unity, harmony, love and peace throughout the world through his music. I hope that in these days after his death, people try to focus on that aspect of him. Not just the great performer, but also the kind, gentle, world conscious person he always was. I know that I will. I already miss him greatly.

Diva, Micheal Jackson had already became an icon in most people's hearts, including me as well! That's why, it's pretty hard to accept when he's passed away suddenly...

Hope he'll find a better place for his afterlife!

I certainly hope people will focus on the music and not all of the negative aspects of his life.

I grew up with his music and he is such a part of the history of my life. I hope that he is at peace now.

The emptiness he left cannot be filled. He was a genius, pure and simple, who lived and performed on another stratosphere and touched millions deeply without ever meeting them face-to-face. We miss you MJ.

And you got it from Tower... aren't they out of business?

I'm trying to locate the Off The Wall vinyl.

I'm going to my mother's house to get my Off the Wall album. I use to dance around my living room singing the songs and kissing the cover. I just knew I was going to be Mrs. Jackson. LOL! My sisters claimed Thriller. They had Michael Jackson posters on the wall in our living room! Michael's music crossed generations, races, and cultures. He will definitely be missed.

Wonderful post! I'm just like everybody else...stunned and so saddened by the loss of Michael. I still can't believe it. As one of the other commenters said, I also used to dance around to the Off The Wall album and dance 'with' the cover of the album back in 1979-80 when I was a little girl.(smile) He will be greatly missed...he already is. A true legend for sure.

I am really surprised at my own emation towards losing an icon I don't personally know. His music touched so much of my life. Seeing your tape with the wrapper still in makes me not feel so bad about my dust cover protected Thriller jacket still in my closet.

My sister just reminded me of his song "keep the faith", that I used to love when I was younger. The words are very inspirational.

I wasn't even born yet when Thriller was released. I can't recall my first exposure to his music, but it was probably MJ's song on the movie Free Willy. He sang "will you be there". I was roughly 8 years old at the time, yet whenever I hear that song I think of that movie.

I like michael's music. Growing up my favorite song/video was "black or white", I liked the end of the video where people's heads tranformed into different faces/races/genders.

The past few years I would take out the Jackson 5 christmas cd with them singing all the holiday songs every winter. I took a longer listen to many of his songs after michael jackson week on american Idol. My favorites (in order) Man in the Mirror, Remember the Time, Human Nature, Dirty Diana, I want you back (jackson 5).
