Beijing Olympics Hangover...And Ice Skating

Ugh... I'm kind of sad today. No more Olympic games playing in the background while I'm on the old laptop here, giving me moments to jump up and shout, scream or cheer...
I'm a sports fanatic, in some ways, so for me, two weeks of Olympics running damn near 24-7 on TV is like swimming around in a huge vat of Haagens Dazs (Dulce de Leche flavor) ice cream with a big spoon!

I watched the closing ceremonies (until I could watch no more...did they ever end?), and it was awesome. Simply awesome. Big up to the Chinese for engineering and pulling off such a monumental display, both the beginning and the end.

Now it's back to life as usual! I guess the big news stories now will center around the big Obama vs McCain election coming up in a few months. Let the mud slinging continue!

My big event of the day is that I'm going ice skating again this afternoon. I actually went yesterday after work, and man, I BELONG on the ice! Why didn't I figure that out years ago?

I guess it was because I was so busy kick boxing, boxing, learning karate, biking, blading and being all about the gym. Damn! I've been missing out!

A fan of figure skating for many years, I tend to pattern my moves after what I've seen the amateurs and pros do. Loved watching Michelle Kwan, Suriya Bonaly, all of the Russian skaters and Rudy Gallindo. Do you know that yesterday, on ice skates for only the 3rd time EVER, I was already skating backwards, doing some spins, and also some arabesque leg lifts!? I can skate on one leg like it's nothing (just like on my roller blades) WHAT??! Oh my GOD! I have to call my parents and ask them WHY they didn't get me on ice skates when I was 5. I coulda been an Olympian! I coulda been a contenduh...... Why, Mommy, why?? lol

But seriously, I felt so graceful, amazing and light on those skates at the rink yesterday. I regret not having gotten into ice skating years ago.
But hey, as long as you have breath, you can always discover something new to learn and enjoy. And that, my friends, is what my life is, and always has been about.
And as long as I have life in me, it will continue to be!

Hope you all are having a fabulous Monday! ;)

It does feel odd that the Olympics are over....I am NOT looking forward to the next few months of mud-slinging campaigning...bleh!

Did you hear Michelle Kwan has not ruled out going for gold in the next winter Olympics? woohoo!

Congrats on the ice skating. I always say i'm going to go but I never seem to make it. I haven't skated in a long time.

I miss the Olympics. I'm a sports fanatic, so I was in heaven. I'll be in withdrawal for a few days.

Yeah, Kelly...it just ran through here like a slow train! Now we're just standing in the dust, waving good bye!

I love Michelle Kwan, but she really needs to move on and turn pro now, IMO. I mean, with all these years of experience at the Olympics, International Championships, etc, to me it's not fair to the new girls coming up.
Let them have a chance to get out there and compete with their peers... not someone who's been on the circuit for 12+ years now.
I mean, she's been there and done this.
She had another shot at the gold 4 years ago and blew it.
I say chalk it up, start your pro career and move on. The others did. Look at Kristi Yamaguchi. She went on and had a fabulous career after the Olympics.

Yeah, T, I feel the same about the big O being over now. But there'll always be something else to watch on TV....

With the Democratic convention happening this week, they will beat every single piece of commentary to death.

darn! I saw the words "ice skating" and I thought I'd continue to read a post on how you aspire to be a hockey player! Oh well...

But hey, if you're looking for a rush, and you're into contact sports - try the one that's played on ice skates.

Whoohoo, can't wait! My season officially begins Sept 6th.

Ice skating sounds fun! I think the best exercise is the kind that feels like playing.

Hi Fitness Diva,

I loved that take you did on the Marlon Brando line " I could've been a contender" in On the Waterfront".

I only saw the opening and missed everything else since there is no electricity where we are in the remotest region of this country. I did get a set of CD's today where a lot of the events were recorded. Hopefully , I could get to see the best ones.

I don't think there will be another Olympics as grand and massive in scale as this one. Credit goes to the Chinese for putting up a great show.

Thanks for the visits. Much appreciated. Be careful when you ice skate though, someone may club your legs in envy. Ha ha ha. :-) --Durano, done!
