No More Belly, Baby!

flat abs
What everyone wants....a smooth flat stomach that looks sexy and toned. It's attainable for just about anyone, but you do have to put in the work.

Contrary to what many believe, crunches and ab exercises alone are not going to get you those flat abs. It's a combination of diet and exercise that gets you there. So, let's start with the diet. You know that consuming excessive fat and sugar is a no no already, right? Then, what you need to do here is to have other good, enjoyable, filling foods on hand to keep you from grabbing and snacking on the bad stuff. Here are a few things you can consume instead:

Fruits

Sugarless items and desserts made with a sugar substitute

Leaner meats

Foods and vegetables with a high fiber content that help combat hunger

Soy products

Nuts

Also, don't forget that smaller portions can go a long way in helping you shave the amount of sugar and fat you consume on a daily basis.

We all know that diet alone is not enough to get that trim, toned look. If you're tired of just doing crunches, try some of these ab toning methods for a change:

Pilates exercises

Crunches on a stability ball

Balancing exercises on a BOSU

Hanging leg lifts/raises

Plank exercises

Twists with a light weight medicine ball

Twists with a light weight body bar

Dancer's crunch (in standing position, contract abs all the way in, and then release, repeating 10 to 15 times per set

Now, to finish it all off, you need to get in that cardio. That's the best way to just melt that fat right off. In a cardio rut? Here are a few ways to go about it that you may not have tried:

Power walking

Running

Jump Rope

Step Aerobics

Zumba Classes

Kickbox Aerobics

Racquet Ball

Swimming

To insure yourself the utmost success, you need to make sure to pay attention to all aspects of a good health and fitness program. Streamline your diet, do your strength training and toning exercises, and get your cardio in at least 3 to 4 times a week. Using this simple formula, you will be sure to achieve that flat, sexy stomach that looks good both in clothes and out of them. It's not impossible! Just set your mind to it, and do it! I know you can! So, what are you waiting for? Get busy!

Swimming is a good one, iwalk. How much effort it takes! Anytime I go for a swim, I'm completely spent afterwards!

Never say never, Natural!
If you went on that show Survivor, you'd get you some abs! Anybody will get abs after starving on that show for weeks! lol

how about sports such as badminton?how beneficial are they? i play every alternate day....will it help flattening my belly?

Hi, diva!

Yes, badminton is on the list of good cardio options, but not high up.
As racquet or hand ball sports go, actual raquet ball, hand ball and tennis exert more energy and burn more calories because of the return time of the ball. There's a bit more "hang time" with badminton when it comes to returns, but it is still a very good way to get in a calorie burning workout.
But don't forget, it's your diet that's going to really bring it all together! You can play hand or racquet ball for hours, but if you're consistently eating the wrong things, that belly is never really going to get that flat look you want.
Gotta be sure to pay attention to both! ;)
Thanks for stopping by! :)

Hi fitness diva,
Very Nice post! I love the picture, that is a sexy stomach. The picture can really help to motivate us. I am lack of exercise, but I am walking more with my kids, which is helping me to burn calories. I got the nutrition going on. Take care and have a great week! :-)

Great information. I still need to work to lose that "baby weight" and the belly that came along with it. Starting next month I will have more time on my hands. Maybe then I'll be able to exercise more often and finally get that toned tummy once again like the one in your photo. Thank you for sharing this great information. Reading posts like this helps me to get motivated to exercise more!

I agree, diet is the secret to success but exercising is a must - and I like dancing above all!

Great advise. I find that doing sit ups seems to make my tummy fatter but by cutting down on my food portions I look a lot better.

deadlifts, squats, push-ups and pull-ups didn't hurt in helping me rid the gut of the flab along with a 90% clean nutritional plan. Good information, thanks for sharing.

I am always looking for ways to flatten my post baby belly! Are there any other ab workouts that I can do on my pilates ball?

I actually found that my abs were alright as they were, you just couldn't see them through all the fat! So it wasn't ab-specific exercise that I needed, just some intense cardio!

Hey Fitness Diva, stomach is looking great! Mine is too ;)

This is just the exercise tips I needed. I cannot get my stomach flat. It is worst than it was before and I'm doing more now.

Now I'm trying to follow instructions. I was a little slow earlier.

I like the list for the cardio rut. I try to run because it seems to be the fastest way to get results for me, but it's also the cardio that I get bored with the fastest.

The hardest thing to do is to cut out sugar. I always have sugar with my coffee and I love having dessert with supper. I also want to have a toned and flat tummy. I want it all!!!

The exercise part I can get down, but the eating part is where I always run into problems. I am a very picky eater and the healthier foods just never appeal to me.

Currently, fat loss is one of the most popular health issues and in particular a proper abs work out to achieve a flat stomach and losing stomach fat.

One factor that can further help speed up the process is to stop eating in the evenings after 7pm. You might wonder what exactly this has got to do with losing tummy fat. Just take the test and prove this to yourself by simply just doing this for only 1 week. You'll be amazed at the results you see.

I have been swimming a lot this summer. After an hour and a half swim in the ocean yesterday, I felt like I had taken a real beating. I could feel it in every muscle in my body! I also have switched to sugar substitute and no sugar snacks like Jello Pudding and apple sauce combined with natural snacks like apples, oranges, bananas and nuts.

I have to be honest, not sure if you guys are using workouts from P90X, but it is intense and FOR REAL! Health is Wealth, pass it on....

awseome list. i think the thing that's keeping my abs from popping/being sexy toned is the eating. gotta watch eating- don't over eat the healthy stuff!

I agree, only diet is not sufficient for weight loss, exercise is most important which help to burn the fat and I like mostly yoga, walking, dancing exrcises.
Thanks, Keep it up!
