Dance Your Ass Off -- Thumbs Up!
OK, am loving this show. And I'm not a fan of these weight loss shows like The Biggest Loser or DietTribe (fitness and helping people lose weight is my lifestyle - don't need to watch it on TV). I also can't seem to get into Dancing With the Stars, America's Got Talent or American Idol either, for whatever reason.
However, while clicking through the channels one night in search of yet another crime show, I let the remote linger for a few minutes on "Dance Your Ass Off", the show that has overweight individuals competing in both dancing and losing weight. It's actually DWTS meets Biggest Loser, complete with a weigh in after your dance performance.
What got me was seeing how hard these folks work to get those routines down, routines, I might add, that would be just about as challenging for normal weight people. Not only do they do it, but week after week they go all out, and in quite spectacular fashion.
I still can't get over in week two one of the contestants on the floor doing the worm!!! Kudos to them for busting their asses to put it out there, and also for doing what they have to do to take off the pounds.
Okay, gotta admit that the stars and stripes getup is a bit much, but I still have to give them an "A" for effort! ;)
Truth be told, though, what also keeps me coming back are the fashions! This is the first time I've ever seen large sized people portrayed so glamorously, with glitzy, spangly, sometimes over the top costumes that really are fantastic! Show that body, and give 'em some razzle dazzle, I say! I think that it's great to see these people come out and strut their stuff in these amazing outfits, just like the "little people" wear, and rock it out in style! Who says you gotta be a size 2 to wear a pink shimmy dress, or orange faux leather pants with holes down the side?? Not this show!! LOVE IT, and I also want to find some of those dresses for myself! That pink fringe dress that Shayla had on last episode...I would kill in that thing! Gimme that dress, Shayla! lol! :)
Don't necessarily have a favorite, but I wish them all luck. They work hard and are very entertaining and lovely to watch all done up in this outrageous finery. What more could you ask for? Keep up the good work, DYAO contestants, and keep the spectacular and quite amazing costumes coming! If you guys haven't yet seen this show, check it out! It's definitely worth a look see!
And may the best man or woman win!

I watched the first episode, and thought it was cringe worthy and kind of exploitive...I still have the other episodes on my tivo but I haven't decided if I really want to watch them.
I agree. I think it's wonderful to see the media showing real people in their sexy best...
(I love crime shows, too.)
I haven't seen the show yet, but I love the concept. I think that the best way for most people to get and stay in shape is to find something fun that they can incorporate into their lifestyle like dance. You've convinced me that I need to check out the next episode.
I was scarred for life after watching a bit of that first episode. But there were also a laugh or two to be heard.
And Diva, you no watchy The Biggest Loser? Very surprising.
..maybe it's because Jillian reminds me of me.
Aren't these dancers very obese. But anyway they can dance better than me.
hehehe.
Thanks
I am with you. I don't watch those weight loss shows either. I spend enough time doing and reading about that stuff. Besides the "science" sigh...behind the "diets" I am sure would make me ill.
Wish I personally enjoyed dancing more (by that I mean going out and doing it) but I don't really. Being that I was a rock drummer well...that is how I express my "inner music."
Speaking of dancing people probably need to realize that someone like Madonna does not have the body she does because of yoga or those ridiculous "high rep" exercises she supposedly does. She got that way because..she danced her ass off!
I've enjoyed this show too. It really shows what people with true determination can do!
A very interesting show. I think it could motivate me. If I happen to see it, I'm gonna stop and watch.
Awww. Sorry you had problems with the video. Do try again. I don't really like the set up because if you click on the bar, it probably won't work. The arrow should work. You'd like her because you're both into fitness. :-)
I went for a street dancing class once and I worked out a sweat! It was good.... and fun!! :)
I never heard of any show about obese people but i know that this is possible since I am a good dancer and I am also obese.
I haven't watched any of those shows, didn't even know there was a dance one!!!
I think it is because I'm a plus size woman who would like to be a "little person" again!!!
I think it is wonderful when someone is as comfortable in their body as the people on the dance show...
Cheers
I watched this a couple of times. I think it's really a great idea. I have to say, I saw part of the stripper episode and I was very impressed with a couple of those women! Seriously. For any woman who is not comfortable with their body to be so sexy and sell it like that and ON TV! not to mention the flexibility! Very impressive!
Kelly
VetTech, I think that we all might have that reaction to something new, based on what we've been conditioned to accept as normal. Now, I'm not an advocate of being as big as you can be, and not giving a damn what the world thinks about it, la la la.... but, I saw the beauty here. These people are determined, brave and hard working, and that alone to me is VERY SEXY! Doesn't matter what size THAT comes in! Bring us some more! ;)
Me, too, Mom. I hope that this show continues for another few seasons, at least. Have you seen Crime 360? Lovin' that one right about now! ;)
Hey, Tina... yes, it's not about going on a diet plan. MOVEMENT, people, MOVEMENT is what is going to really get you there. Finding the things that you love to do, and doing them to death, like a child playing til the street lights come on. Add better eating habits to that, and you've got it right there!
Fit Jerk, you need to be shot. "scarred for life". lmao! ;)
No, I don't watch The Biggest Loser, the same way I don't follow other fitness gurus/people on Twitter. I already know all this shit, live this shit daily, and don't need any more of it in my relaxation time. Show and tell me what I don't already know. THAT is what will entertain me.
Jillian Michaels is one scary looking chick! I do notice, however, that she's softened up her image a bit this year. Good move on her part. Gotta balance strength and femininity very carefully.... ;)
Neo, they are the most impressive obese people I've ever seen. I will continue to be their cheerleader, because I really like that 'give it your all' attitude! ;) hey...maybe you'd better go get some dance lessons! ;)
Robert, you are so right. Madonna is not all reedy thin and strong JUST because of the yoga she does. Those rehearsals for tours and upcoming shows are enough to keep anybody looking fabulous. Just look at what it does for Tina Turner!
Lynne, they are a true inspiration. I hope that others with weight problems are watching and getting motivated from what they're doing!
ECL, dance is one of the most fun workouts you can get. Especially if you choose a music genre that you really love! Then you're just moving and and enjoying the moments so much, it doesn't even feel like exercise! :D
Yes, Jacqueline, check it out. Definitely worth the time it takes to watch a couple routines, at least!
Heather, you will love the attitude on these people. They don't "act" like they're fat. That alone is just awesome. They step up and JUST DO IT. Like anyone else. Gotta love that! NO excuses with these folks!
Tina, I missed the stripper episode, but the Latin one was pretty good. Dips, footwork and lifts -- Oh, my!
But they pulled it off, and no one embarrassed themself! And that's a situation that can happen to any of us, big or small. Imagine having a few million people watching your scantily clad ass busting out a hot, sizzling stripper pole routine!! ;D
I am overweight myslef. I love that the show give people like me a chance to be sexy and to chance to bust a move.
Sounds like an interesting show. I've never seen it. It sounds like a good concept.
Diva, I watched the show as well. Frankly, I thought some of the contestants really got the dancing talent!
This is a great concept real people showing real feelings. Very cool. I have struggled with my weight over the years and one of the things that happens is that as you get bigger I think you do tend to move less and eat more. Exactly what your shouldn't be doing! Great blog keep up the dancing!
I agree. I think it's wonderful to see the media showing real people in their sexy best...
I think it is wonderful when someone is as comfortable in their body as the people on the dance show...
I've never heard of this show but it looks kind of funny! I hope the contestants are able to "dance their asses off!" They are probably having fun doing that too.
wow, i haven't seen this show before it looks a lot of fun, i'm definitely going to check this out... interesting how much weight the participants will actually loose, i hear dancing is very good for burning calories...
I heard about this one before, though never got the chance to see it. The concept is good. But I'm not digging any reality shows right now... there's just too many of them, it's already dizzying. :D
Something like this is a little bit weird - but who cares? Why not try new things, right? It's great to see people being themselves and just breaking loose.
Hehe, pretty cool.
Good show and they surprise you by the moves they pull off.
I am watching this show.I find it cool because they are showing real people doing their real thing.
I think it's amazing what progress they make....and they're in such fantastic shape when they finish!!
